Lance Thackeray was a popular artist, illustrator and author. He was best known for his postcard designs and was a leading exponent of the ‘Write Away’ series. A series of six cards for the Raphael Tuck ‘Write Away’ had a motoring theme. There was also a ‘Motoring’ series of six cards plus an Oilette series of ‘Ways of Motors’ also motors and transport featured in many other card designs. Cards are signed in full or with initials LT. His work was exhibited at the Paris Motor Show 1905, Leicester Galleries in 1908, Fine art Society in 1910 and Walker’s Galleries in 1913. He was a member of Savage and Arts Clubs in London and the Turf club of Cairo. Lance Thackeray was the author of two books about Egypt ‘The Light Side of Egypt’ and ‘The People of Egypt’. Also prints were reproduced of sporting subjects such as snooker. Several prints were also sold of his art.
