Year working: 1875 - 1962
Donald Fraser Gould McGill was Britain’s most famous postcard cartoon artist illustrating thousands of designs. It is estimated that his output was close to 10 000. He was not a motoring artist but motor vehicles and motor cycles often featured in his cartoons so McGill is worth including in this listing. Because of the sexual nature of his illustrations and innuendo, he and his publishers were prosecuted for obscenity. Today his work is seen as an important part of social history as it reflected and recorded attitudes and changes as they occurred
There are several books that give details about McGill. A good starter is:- The World of Donald McGill by Elfreda Buckland published Blandford 1984
