Jones Sydney Robert

Year working: 1881 – 1966

Sydney Jones was a well known painter, illustrator, designer and writer. Born in Birmingham in 1881 and attended Birmingham College of Art. He exhibited many times including twice at the Royal Academy. He did an extensive amount of commercial work and illustrations for publications, such as The Times, Illustrated London News and The Studio. His many books concentrated on the English countryside, such as Old English Country Cottages and English Village Life. He wrote and illustated one book on the Roads and Byways of England. Front cover artwork for The Autocar magazine 4th March 1927 advertising the Pass and Joyce car showroom also some of his architectural sketches were used by The Autocar 1st June 1928. Also continued working for The Autocar during mid 1930's as an illustrator. He would appear to be a regular agency artist with The Autocar, he was doing column headers in as early as 1924.
