Year working: 1854 - 1936
Extremely well known mainly black and white artist at the turn of the century who made his name working for the Illustrated London News (ILN) joining them in 1895. He was born in London but his family emigrated to New Zealand whilst he was young. He returned to the UK in 1893. He was a general artist with the ILN and his art included early motor vehicles. This scene typifies the antagonism between the equestrian fraternity and early motorists.
