Thanks to Stuart Middlemiss for drawing my attention to this excellent artist. Although best known for his maritime and aviation art he also produced motoring work. Most of his work was front cover art for Model maker and Model Cars but he also worked for Wolseley cars producing brochure art. See the very good website produced by his son referenced below which gives a long biography. There is also a Wikepedia page about him, seemingly written also by his son.
